Saturday's Santa parade our early kickoff to Christmas (with map)

Victoria?s unofficial kickoff to the Christmas season starts Saturday as Santa makes an early appearance in the Island Farms Santa Light Parade.

While it would be wise to dress for the weather, one would be warmed by the spirit of approximately 65,000 people expected to turn out to catch the sight of 56 decorated floats and bands.

While there will be some out-of-town entries, the majority of the parade is local. There will be three local bands, from Lambrick Park Secondary School, Spectrum Community School and the Police Pipe Band.

The Island Farms Santa Light Parade starts at 5:45 p.m. The bands and floats takes one hour and 15 minutes to travel up Government Street. It starts at Belleville and ends at Store Street.

After the parade people can take a short walk to Centennial Square to see all the trees in the square lit up for the holidays.
