Dell acquires California software company

The Round Rock-based computer maker has made its seventh acquisition of the fiscal year.

Dell Inc. has acquired California-based software maker Gale Technologies Inc.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Gale Technologies, founded in 2008, develops infrastructure automation software. It employs 75 people.

The deal is Round Rock-based Dell?s (Nasdaq: DELL) seventh acquisition of the fiscal year as the company attempts to refashion itself into a full-service technology company.

Dell also announced Friday the formation of an Enterprise Systems & Solutions organization that will focus on ?converged and enterprise workload topologies and solutions,? according to a company news release.

Dell, the No. 3 computer maker in the world, employs an estimated 12,000 workers in Central Texas.

The acquisition comes one day after the company posted a 47 percent decline in third-quarter profit and an 11 percent decline in revenue compared with the same quarter last year. It was the fourth consecutive quarter of lower earnings for Dell, which is dealing with a sharp decline in personal computer sales as tablets and smartphones continue to grow in popularity.

In October, the price of Dell shares declined to a three-year low of $9.25 after trading at about $18 per share in February. The company?s stock, which closed at $9.56 Thursday, has declined more than 35 percent since the start of the year.
