Community keeps faith for missing April

Hundreds of members of the small Machynlleth community attended an emotional church service yesterday for missing five-year-old April Jones. Walking slowly through the Welsh town towards St Peter's Church, many wore pink ribbons to symbolise their faith that the girl, who went missing a week ago, remained alive.

Police said a further 100 specialist officers would continue to look for April while mountain rescue teams suspended their search after combing 70 sq km at 230 sites in the region. "We cannot bring little April, our sweet and innocent little girl, home as we had hoped," Reverend Kathleen Rogers told the 200-strong congregation and hundreds more who had gathered outside.

Mark Bridger, who has been charged with murder, child abduction and attempting to pervert the course of justice, is due before magistrates in Aberystwyth today.

Meanwhile, Matthew Wood, 20, from Lancashire, was charged after writing an offensive post on Facebook about the case.
