Plan Now for Next Year's Holiday Decorations

Plan Now for Next Year's Holiday DecorationsNow that the most of the major holidays have gone and folks are starting to pack away their gear, it is important to plan ahead for next year so that you can save both time and money.

Of course, nearly everyone knows about buying gift wrap and decorations after the holidays for cost savings, but personal finance weblog PFAdvice also points out that every minute you spend now to property put away your holiday gear will pay dividends next year when you drag it back out and put it back on display. It is easy to put things off until next year, like having a stocking or tree skirt laundered to remove tree sap or spills, but what is easily removed by dry cleaning now may prove impossible to fix next year. In that sense you should go ahead and replace anything broken now while it's cheap and pack it away well so it will be in new condition when you need it next year.

For other tips on how to use time now to save both time and money next year see the source link below.

Senate approves $60.4 billion Superstorm Sandy aid bill

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate on Friday approved a $60.4 billion aid package to pay for reconstruction costs from Superstorm Sandy, which ravaged mid-Atlantic and northeastern states, after defeating Republican efforts to trim the bill's cost.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid urged the Republican-controlled House of Representatives to quickly take up the bill, which includes $12 billion to repair and strengthen the region's transportation system against future storms.

"There is no time to waste," Reid said.

Both chambers have to agreed on a package by January 2, when the current term of Congress is expected to end, or restart the process of crafting legislation in 2013. The Senate approved the bill 62-32, with most Republicans voting no.

"We beat back all of the crippling amendments," said Senator Charles Schumer, a Democrat from New York, which suffered the largest monetary damage in the storm.

"The century-old tradition of different parts of the country rallying to help those who are beleaguered because of difficult natural disasters continues," Schumer said.

The bill's chances in the next few days could depend on whether President Barack Obama and congressional leaders reach a deal to avert the "fiscal cliff" of tax increases and spending cuts set to begin taking effect in the new year.

House Republican leaders have not yet decided whether to take up the Senate bill, a Republican aide said.

The bill also provides $17 billion in Community Development Block Grants to help rebuild homes, schools, hospitals and other buildings destroyed by the late October storm, help small businesses and improve the power infrastructure.

Senate Republicans complained the $60.4 billion reconstruction package requested by Obama is more than the annual budgets for the departments of Interior, Labor, Treasury and Transportation combined.

HOUSE ACTION UNCLEAR

Senator Dan Coats, an Indiana Republican, offered an alternative that would have provided $23.8 billion in funding to help victims of the storm through the end of March and give Congress time to determine additional needs.

"Let me just say, we simply are allowing three months for the Congress of the United States, the representatives of the taxpayers' dollars, to assess, document and justify additional expenditures that go beyond emergency needs," Coats said just before his amendment was defeated.

House Appropriations Committee Chairman Harold Rogers, a Republican from Kentucky, would still prefer to pass a stop-gap bill to meet immediate needs and wait to do another package after better estimates come in, a committee aide said.

The Congressional Budget Office has estimated about $8.97 billion of the Senate bill would be spent in 2013, with another $12.66 billion spent in 2014 and $11.59 billion spent in 2015.

The Senate bill is considerably less than the $82 billion in aid requested by New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, the states that bore the brunt of damage from the storm.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, a Republican, was in Washington this month, lobbying lawmakers for the larger amount.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency's disaster relief fund now has less than $5 billion available.

The damage to New York and New Jersey coastal areas was on a scale not seen since Hurricane Katrina slammed the Gulf Coast and flooded New Orleans in 2005. Two weeks after that storm hit, Congress approved $62.3 billion in emergency appropriations.

Lawmakers passed numerous subsequent emergency funding requests over several years to cover damages from Katrina, which topped $100 billion. A number of Gulf State Republicans supported the Sandy relief bill.

Republicans were successful in requiring offsetting spending cuts for $3.4 billion in mitigation work to prevent future disasters. Some Democrats said this would set a precedent for future disaster aid bills.

Tips for a Successful Product Launch | Easy Home Business Blog ...

All the techniques with internet marketing are available to anyone who chooses to use them, but it is interesting that they do not all use them with the same degree of proficiency. It is not hard to give you many examples of this; click here is such an example because it is popular. Some people do things better than you and many do it worse; so we think it is a great idea to want to do it the best ? pass them all. But we all know there are many who are impatient or lazy, and then they just do the bare minimum with any endeavor. We have often felt that there are a hundred little things that all work in unison to do something amazing like cause people to pay you money for something. All the greatest business people on the net who started small eventually realized how critical testing all those small parts are for getting the greatest conversions. In order to successfully launch a product online, you have to consider several factors. Your product?s launch can make or break its success which is why it?s so important. Here are some steps to take to help ensure a successful launch for your product. Create the Buzz: Many product launches fail because the owners didn?t create a buzz for their product. If you want people to take notice of your product, there needs to be a buzz surrounding it before it launches. You need to create something interesting; something your target audience will love which means to create buzz you need to do more than create a Facebook event. The purpose of the initial buzz is to grab your target audience?s interest and to give them something worth talking about. Lengthen the Pre-Launch Period: to make sure that your launch works well and that you get enough buzz built up, you should make sure that you have a long enough pre-launch period. This is the phase in which you do as much prep as possible to make sure that your product sells well. When you don?t do this and just launch the product right after you announce it, you run the risk of only making a few sales. However, the reason you put a lot of planning into your launch is to ensure a flood of sales on the actual launch date. Launching a product online gives you the best opportunity to create a really good buzz for what you are selling and when you release information in a slow-drip kind of fashion, you create a real sense of need and urgency in your customers that will ensure that they will want to know more. Without putting in enough time with your buyers you won?t see any sales on the day of your launch. A good sized pre-launch period is at least five to six weeks long. If you don?t want to spend that much time on that you should at least put in three weeks. This gives you enough time to build a good level of interest in the launch of your product. Anytime we read about some twist on something marketing related, we automatically think if it will work with our campaigns. While zox pro is very useful and diverse, it just depends on your particular situation. We suppose there may be things like time constraints that could make it difficult to do more with their online businesses. Very many online businesses are extremely serious, and therefore they will always be interested in adding new revenue streams. The gains you can realize by scaling what you have going on with any advertising and your marketing can make all the difference. Also, remember there is nothing wrong with testing and trying something new, and that is really the only intelligent approach to expansion. Update Your Joint Venture Partners: The most important thing about launching a successful online product is how well you stay in touch with your joint venture partners before your launch the product. If you want your joint venture partners to give you their approval, then you have to tell them what is going on with the product. Always keep them advised. Being trustworthy when it comes to your joint venture partners will make a large difference for when you launch your product. In addition, you should attempt to score more joint venture partners before launching the product. This is because the larger number of joint venture partners that you have, the more of an impact it will have. All of the things you do during your pre-launch period will inform the success of your post-launch period so don?t hold back.

GOP Weekly Address: Senator Roy Blunt Discusses Progress on Avoiding the Fiscal Cliff

United States Senate(WASHINGTON) -- In this week?s Republican address, Missouri Senator Roy Blunt highlighted the need for Republicans and Democrats to solve the fiscal cliff.

?Divided government is a good time to solve hard problems?and in the next few days, leaders in Washington have an important responsibility to work together and do just that,? Blunt states.

The fiscal cliff could possibly ?lead to devastating job losses at a time when American families and small business owners are still struggling to get back on their feet,? according to Blunt.

Yet, Republicans in the House have specifically worked to pass ?bills to protect all Americans from burdensome tax increases? and ?passed legislation to replace damaging across-the-board spending cuts with responsible targeted ones, and to bring our nation?s record debt under control.?

It is now the Senate?s turn to move legislation forward.

Blunt concludes, ?We still can avoid going over the fiscal cliff if the President and the Democrat-controlled Senate step forward this week and work with Republicans to solve this problem and solve it now.?

Love Towers Seniors exercise onto national stage | The Knoxville ...

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

A group of Knoxville seniors and their resident-led exercise program has been featured on the National Institute on Aging website

This past month, 13 active seniors at Guy B. Love Towers exercised their way onto the National Institute on Aging?s national website as poster children for a national senior health and fitness initiative, Go4Life.

Throughout 2012, the ?Love Morning Exercise? group has met every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-9:30 a.m. to groove to some oldies and get active. The group classes feature endurance, strength, balance and flexibility exercises especially geared towards seniors over the age of 50. Each class is held in the social hall of Love Towers, an affordable housing development of Knoxville?s Community Development Corporation.?

Rita Schwartz, an eight-year Love Towers resident and retired social worker, founded the group a year ago after she was diagnosed with cancer. Schwartz had always been active, but she knew she needed to build her strength to fight the disease.

?When I found out I had cancer last fall, I knew I needed to be as strong and as healthy as I could be,? said Schwartz. ?And I knew there were people at Love Towers who needed the exercise as much as I did.?

After receiving approval from Love Towers management to begin the class, she purchased some weights and resistance bands from Wal-Mart and put the class on the Love Towers public calendar. The first week she had four people; the next week she had six. Today, she has 13 regular members that come three days a week.

With little formal training, Schwartz adapted the original program from a gentle joints exercise training course for arthritis. All the exercises can be done from a wheel chair walker.

?It?s wonderful that the residents can be involved in exercise that isn?t intimidating,? said Steve Ellis, KCDC senior asset manager at Love Towers.? ?It?s for exercise, but it?s a very social group. It?s good for the mind as well as the body.?

Schwartz has always been good at finding contributions for the projects she takes on around Love Towers, and when she ran across a bookmark advertising free exercise books and videos through the National Institute on Aging, she snapped up the chance.

Three days after sending in a request, she received the Go4Life packet with materials encouraging seniors to get active, eat right and socialize to be healthy in mind, body and spirit.

With only 25 percent of seniors age 65-74 engaging in regular physical activity, Go4Life is an important national initiative that encourages seniors to begin an exercise regimen for the first time, return to exercise after a break or increase their weekly activity. Schwartz said the Go4Life materials have given the Love Towers group cohesiveness and team camaraderie.

?I don?t think any of my folks had exercised before,? said Schwartz. ?This is their first time to be in any real organized exercise class, and they love it!?

The dedicated seniors can?t wait to get moving in the morning. They often arrive early for the class to listen to music, dance and enjoy the social aspect of the group. ?It?s just a little party in there,? said Schwartz. ?We have the ?50s and ?60s music, and we put it as loud as we can.?

In addition to the fun atmosphere, many of the seniors have seen dramatic health benefits from the class. Some of these testimonials are featured on the Institute on Aging?s website.

Jo Ann Leach is 62 years old, but severe back pain caused her to act much older. When she first started coming to the class, she could barely walk and spent her time bent over a walker. After a year of exercise, Leach no longer needs her walker and rarely uses her cane. Schwartz has actually trained her to lead the class.

?She?s my biggest success story,? Schwartz said.

Another success story featured on the website is Fred Page. He has been coming to the classes since May. He has a pacemaker and has had multiple open heart surgeries. After a few months as a part of the ?Love Morning Exercise? group, his doctor saw significant improvement in his blood pressure and heart rate. Page has also been trained to teach the class.

Even Schwartz herself has seen the benefits of the group. Her cancer is currently in remission.

?When I found out I had cancer, I decided I was going to do everything I could to get strong,? said Schwartz. ?I started this group for myself, but it?s turned out to be great organized community fun!?

Schwartz said the ?Love Morning Exercise? group has enjoyed the attention that comes with being featured on a national website. The Love Towers exercise group proudly wears their team shirts around the complex.

?Because we were able to get the national attention, they feel like stars,? Schwartz said. ?I love that they feel like stars.?

Author Provides a Way for Anyone to Use 2D Bar Codes Creatively ...

Huntington, NY, December 27, 2012 ?(PR.com)? In his new book, author R. Henry Thomas outlines a myriad of creative applications using readily available "2D" bar coding systems working in concert with Smart phones or Computer Tablets to construct new ideas for business promotions, product introductions, enhancements and social networking.

Today you can't help notice more and more of these little square codes popping up all over. When you shop, they help you pay for goods and services. In addition, they quickly help you check for prices, review specifications, find service outlets or can take you on a video tour of potentially your next car, boat or home, Thomas notes. You may even dial phone numbers, view websites or go right to Facebook pages by just scanning your easily created and then printed "two dimensional" codes. Most people can do this within minutes of reading my book and even customize their background images with vibrant color or photographs, he added.

These squiggly squares often referred to as "Quick Response Codes" or "Microsoft Tags" are now being used daily in nearly all types of transactions and are inherently adaptable to a wide variety of known and undiscovered applications. This book provides the reader with background on how ?Bar Codes" came into existence and takes the mystery out of them, Thomas says. It also details information on different auto identification approaches, scanning applications and providers. The publication graphically illustrates how many are being used today and how they can be molded to fit social or business applications for use tomorrow, Thomas added.

His book will also provide the reader with some interesting and entertaining personal experiences regarding "high technology?, its history and will attempt to expand their overall knowledge of bar coding and scanning methodologies.

Mr. Thomas, who holds an MBA from Farleigh Dickinson University, has extensive experience in the auto identification, biometric, credentialing and computer systems industries. He believes his book can be the key for professional entrepreneurs and small business people seeking to use this relatively free bar code technology to enhance their company's profitability, expansion and create a differential advantage. It can also permit students to learn how to create many personalized items right at home, such as name tags, item tags with unique message content, T-shirts and even costume jewelry.

The publication titled, ?What Are Those Little Square Things I Now See Everywhere?? is available from Amazon and Barnes & Noble, as well as, Xlibris.com ISBN: E Books 978-1-4771-4863-1 ISBN: Soft Cover 978-1-4771-4862-4 Additional background information on this book is also available to all interested parties by logging on: http://hstrial-rhtnyc.intuitwebsites.com/

Hair care for women: Hair loss and renewal in women

The psychological impact of hair loss on women is believed to be even more profound than that suffered by males. Trials suggest that women confront their alopecia indirectly by attempting to shroud the problem, using altered styling methods and cuts, whereas men usually respond combatively by treating the source of the problem. Women`s tendency to use ineffective coping mechanisms intensifies the impact of hair loss by producing unsatisfying results.

Alopecia`s consequences on self-esteem
alone make the condition treatment worthy and there are effective, safe therapeutic options. The world of cosmetic remedies is often dotted with unsafe medications, ineffective treatments and false promises. Alopecia`s treatment options, therefore, need to be navigated with care, but there is plenty of hope to be found in contemporary medicine.

Androgonetic alopecia
is the most common reason for hair loss and is typified by its thinning pattern over the center of the scalp. It is hereditary, with the genes of both parents playing a role. Female pattern hair loss usually happens late in life, but it can sometimes begin during adolescence. Shrinking follicles eventually stop growing, which results in thinning, followed by baldness. Biopsies and blood tests are performed to accurately diagnose the condition. While some women use Finasteride as a treatment, this option is only FDA approved for male pattern baldness because of the risks it presents to unborn children. Nevertheless, studies have been conducted demonstrating the drug`s efficiency in treating female pattern baldness.?

Minoxodil remains the only effective and safe way to stimulate hair growth and slow down balding in women. This topical cream usually demands between four and 12 months of treatment. Randomized, controlled trials have demonstrated Minoxidil`s moderate efficacy for female patients. Certain contraceptive tablets containing estradiol and cyproterone are also frequently prescribed to block the effects of male hormones and, in so doing, reverse female pattern baldness.

Hair loss needs to be treated according to its cause and hypothyroidism is sometimes the culprit
. Those with thyroid problems will have coexisting conditions such as:

  • Weight changes,?
  • depression,?
  • reduced concentration and?
  • fatigue.

?

A simple blood test is done to diagnose hypothyroidism and if a positive result is found, hormone treatments are used to stabilize levels. Treating this oft-overlooked condition softens the hair to prevent breakage. Patients with this disorder generally suffer from brittle hair and total baldness is rare.

Iron deficiency anemia
is a common complaint that can induce alopecia. A lack of oxygen-rich red blood cells is responsible for hair loss, but the condition is easily treated with iron supplements and dietary changes. An increase in iron-rich superfoods such as clams, tofu and soybeans is effective when combined with foods that enhance absorption. Broccoli, strawberries and white wine are rich in the heme iron that improves the body`s absorption of non-heme, iron-rich foods.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome is a common hair loss trigger,
which has the opposite effect on the growth of facial hair. Elevated testosterone and DHEAS levels expose the problem and treatment is hormonal. When estrogen and progesterone levels are off kilter due to menopause or PCOS, oral contraceptives that have low androgen indices are used to treat the root of the problem. Topical ketoconazole is used off-label to curb testosterone production. Shampoos containing the drug are most effective at 2% prescription strength.

Those with alopecia areata
suffer hair loss when their immune systems assault their hair follicles. This autoimmune disorder causes patchy bald spots, which are best treated with Minoxidil, corticosteroids and lifestyle changes that combat stress. Diagnostic tests need to be done to rule out other potential causes and measure iron stores.

External factors
such as compulsive hair pulling and damaging hair treatments can also impact on hair loss. Over-dying, cornrows and chemical treatments can make the hair brittle enough to break. Your pharmacy offers information about holistic and medical treatments for a range of hair loss triggers.?
